School Mid-Year Report to Parents
Dear Parents and Guardians:
As an annual check-up on the education system, the Accountability Pillar provides an opportunity for Alberta Education and school authorities to ensure that we are equipping students for success.
The Accountability Pillar uses a set of 16 indicators. Data on these indicators consists of surveys of students, parents and teachers on various aspects of education quality, student outcomes such as dropout and high school completion rates, and provincial assessments of student learning. From January to the end of February, Alberta Education will be conducting the annual Accountability Pillar Survey.
- In January, parents of students in grade 7 in our school will receive a survey from Alberta Education.
- In February, students in grade 7 and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school.
All surveys are anonymous and ask questions about experiences with your school. In addition to English and French, the parent survey is available in Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Dene, Cree, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog and Urdu.
Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is receiving, so we encourage you to return your survey promptly. Survey results will be available to school authorities in May 2018, and will be reported publicly as part of their 3-Year Education Plans and Annual Education Results Reports. Further to this, we report this to our school council in the fall along with the results of our Provincial Achievement Tests.
As a school, we have compiled a mid-year report outlining our achievement and work in these key indicators for your reference. You can access this mid-year report at: http://www.ghp.gsacrd.ab.ca/download/119944
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents in advance for taking the time to complete the survey and provide their input into assisting us to make our excellent school even better. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Our January newsletter is now available online. There is a lot of information concerning upcoming events and dates for families to be aware of as well as overview of key school events from the previous month. You can now access it here.

GHP Recognized for Fire Safety
During fire prevention week, the Morinville Fire Department initiates and oversees one of our school evacuation drills. This year, our school has been recognized for having the most efficient evacuations in the area. Efficiency not only refers to the speed in which we exit the building, but also factors in the rate in which we account for our students, how orderly the evacuation of (and re-entry into) the building, the composure exhibited by students and faculty, etc.
Congratulations to the students and faculty of GHP!

Parent Teacher Interviews
On Wednesday & Thursday, October 18th and 19th from 5:30-8:30pm we are holding our first Parent Teacher Interviews of the year. We look forward to having parents join us.
This is an opportunity to discuss goal setting with your child and you child's teacher(s). Student goal setting is a process where the student with the support of their teacher and parents, students generate their goal(s). The emphasis is on the development of skills, not the acquisition of knowledge. The basis for the goals is based on a student’s self-assessment of one’s skills and abilities with the input of teacher (and parent) observations. There will be the opportunity to discuss these goals at our Parent-Teacher Interviews.
